After your birth, we want to support the whole family through the adjustment of welcoming their new baby. Your midwives provide postpartum care for the mother up to 8 weeks, where we will see you in your home within 48 hours of your birth, followed by in-office visits at 1-2 weeks and 6-8 weeks postpartum.

Maternal postpartum visits will include:

  • Assessment of physical recovery for mother and baby

  • Breastfeeding encouragement, advice and support

  • Monitoring of emotional well-being

  • Processing and discussing your birth experience with you

  • Family planning counseling and diaphragm fittings, if desired

  • Routine laboratory and pap tests as needed

Your midwives provide newborn care up to 2 weeks following the birth. First, we will come to your home within 48 hours of the birth, followed by an in-office visit at 1-2 weeks. We recommend continued care be followed by a pediatrician. Our recommended pediatricians can be found here.

Newborn visits will include:

  • Breastfeeding support and proper latch technique

  • Continued monitoring of vitals, weight loss/gain, and jaundice

  • Assessment of tongue and lip ties and referrals as needed

  • Newborn metabolic screening with 48 hours and repeated at 1-2 weeks

  • Critical Congenital Heart Defect screening (CCHD) performed with a pulse oximeter

  • Newborn Hearing screen
